If you’re looking to start with BridgeU, here are the questions we get asked most often about the platform and what you can expect in 2022.

If your school is looking to implement a guidance platform for the first time, you might want to know more about BridgeU and what you can expect from the platform.

To help, we’ve put together a list of the questions we get asked the most.

1. What is BridgeU?

BridgeU is a free guidance platform.

As a guidance platform, BridgeU is first and foremost an interactive database designed to support schools throughout the entire university application process, from initial to research right up until confirmation and enrolment.

By compiling university data from across the world, BridgeU streamlines university research for both students and counsellors:

  • Students just starting out can explore university options worldwide to compare courses, cost, and career pathways for different countries and subjects
  • Students ready to narrow their options can build their profile to unlock personalised, data-driven university mathes
  • Students who know where they’d like to apply can search for specific degrees and institutions and keep track of deadlines and requirements with ease

But with BridgeU, you get much more than just a guidance software.

Co-founded by a former international student (our CEO, Lucy Stonehill) and trusted by over 1000 schools worldwide, we know that a lack of reliable information isn’t the only challenge faced by today’s international schools.

“Because we are a global network of schools, we needed something with a global reach. BridgeU is neat, quick and reduces the counsellor’s workload.”

Pragati Pandey: University Counsellor, Aga Khan Academy Hyderabad

With BridgeU, your class will discover interactive tools, like our university matcherwriting builder, and strategy advisor, which are powered by our latest data to offer personalised suggestions to each and every student.

Students will also unlock our library of exclusive content and events, where they’ll find how-to advice, exclusive university guides, and events and articles where they can hear from fellow international students and recent graduates.

2. What makes BridgeU different from other guidance platforms?

At BridgeU, we know that although talent is equally distributed across the world, opportunity is not. BridgeU was founded with one main goal in mind: to bridge that gap.

Empowering students around the world to make informed and confident decisions about their future is a major part of that.

But it isn’t the only one. Being globally-minded, for us, means taking a holistic approach that considers how we can level out the playing field for school faculty and universities, too.

Alongside organisational tools for school faculty, like the Analytics Dashboard, counsellors will also enjoy our full library of both online and offline resources. Updated weekly, counsellors will unlock activities and lesson plans, as well as articles and events just for them, to help them simplify their workload and streamline their curriculum.

By partnering with universities around the world, we ensure that we’re always up-to-date with application trends and developments.

Our university partnerships are what make it possible for us to arrange exclusive events for students and counsellors where they can meet university admission officers, faculty members, and current students for the latest unfiltered advice.

This brings us on nicely to our next frequently asked question, since it’s  it’s also what allows us to offer the full BridgeU platform free to schools!

3. Why is BridgeU free for international schools?

National borders, lack of information, school location or budget… these are all obstacles which shouldn’t come between a student and their dream degree.

To make this possible, we partner with a growing number of universities around the world, who value learning from current students and counsellors, benefit from our expertise, and who enjoy being involved in the BridgeU community.

The revenue we generate from this source is what makes it possible to offer the BridgeU platform to schools free of charge.

“I knew nothing and had to learn from scratch. Knowing I had this platform has made my life easier. I have a heavy teaching timetable, so was able to manage both teaching and counselling. I would not have been able to manage it if BridgeU was not there. For students, this is the best guidance counselling experience they’ve ever had, and BridgeU has helped with that.”

Michael Francis: Assistant Director of Sixth Form, British International School Cairo

Our university partnerships are completely independent from our university database and matching tools. Our algorithm is designed to ensure students discover their best-fit university regardless of whether we already partner with them or not.

4. What’s included in the free version?

We’re pleased to say that we do not limit access to any feature if your school is using the free version of BridgeU.

Each faculty member and student will be given their own account, and will have access to our full range of functionalities.

For a full breakdown of what BridgeU includes now that we’re free, head over to our dedicated information page.

5. What do you do with student data?

We are GDPR compliant, and take our responsibility to protect staff, student, and parent data very seriously. We use personal data in order to provide service, to make the website better, and to notify users about changes or maintenance to the platform.

BridgeU currently supports students taking a number of curricula, including:

  • The International Baccalaureate (IB)
  • 4-point GPA
  • UK system (A Levels/AS/BTECs/Pre-Us)
  • Indian School Certificate
  • Central Board of Secondary Education

We also publish grade conversion guides for students in our platform, for students applying to universities who require results to be converted into local or international equivalents.

“BridgeU gives us peace of mind knowing all of our documents are in one place.”

Louise Brown: University Guidance Counsellor, Nord Anglia International School Dubai

BridgeU also offers a number of integrations designed to make life easier for you and your students – from keeping track of applications to document sending. Some of our most popular integrations are:

  • CommonApp
  • Parchment
  • Managebac

7. My school has students applying for university all over the world, not just the US or UK. Can we still use BridgeU?

Absolutely!

We want to help your students explore every opportunity available to them, no matter where it might be.

“Students really liked seeing their matches. It was an important reality check seeing universities in the reach column, but then it was nice to see it instantly made them make more realistic choices without me having to crush their dreams!”

Ana Flores: Counsellor, Uruguayan American School

We regularly look into adding new countries. Currently, our matcher pairs students with universities in:

  • USA
  • UK
  • Australia
  • Canada
  • Germany
  • India
  • Japan
  • Netherlands
  • Singapore
  • South Korea

Once students have built their profile, the matcher will suggest “reach”, “match” and “safety” options, ensuring your students can discover their full range of opportunities – from the ambitious to the safe and practical!

8. Can we use BridgeU with some students and not others?

We recommend using BridgeU with all of your students in grades 11 and 12, as this is when they will be researching and applying for university, and will be able to get the most out of BridgeU.

However, if you think BridgeU might only be relevant for a proportion of your students, we are happy to discuss this with you.

If you choose to, you can also use BridgeU with younger years (ages 13-16), to help them discover their strengths, explore different career pathways, and get them started with the university research process.

“The main thing we like about BridgeU is it offers them options that they might not have thought about, based on their preferences.”

Marcus Allen: Head of Careers & Professional Guidance, Beneden School
